The Value of Perspective

I have spent considerable time in the wilderness and mountains throughout my life. Whether hiking, hunting, or driving, there is nothing quite like getting to a high point where you can get a fresh perspective of where you're at. From those high places, you can see where you've been, you can plot a new course, or you can clearly identify where you need to go. For those same reasons, perspective in life can be a valuable asset on the pathway of life.

Maybe you find yourself in need of some perspective in your life. Perhaps you need perspective in your relationships. Maybe you need perspective on what God is doing in your life. Maybe you need perspective because your life is devoid of margin right now.

Colossians 3:1-3 says, "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." (ESV) Talk about a perspective check! A perspective shift all begins in your mind. Start training your mind to think about the truth of God's Word. The more you read it, the more it will begin to saturate your mind. The ultimate perspective is an eternal perspective. We are not to treat this world as our home. The home for followers of Jesus is heaven. We are to live this life in preparation for the next.

If you need a new perspective, I want to encourage you to do what you need to make changes in the way you think. Like someone in the wilderness needing a better vantage point, you need to get to that place. Get into the secret place with Jesus, and ask Him for fresh perspective. Read the Word with an open heart, and an attitude to stay in it until God is done speaking to you. Talk to a trusted friend. Whatever you need to do to get some perspective, do it.
