Have you ever stood in a place in life and wondered what in the world you were supposed to do? Maybe you had were pursuing a dream God had put in your heart and you didn’t know the next step to take. Maybe you had an issue with your child, and you didn’t know how it could ever work out. Maybe there was an issue in your marriage, and you felt clueless as to what to do next.

These kinds of situations are simple representations of the kinds of situations we can face in life that bring us to decision making thresholds where we simply don’t know what to do. Interestingly enough, these types of situations also demand action and attention. That makes it worse, because – yep, you guessed it – we don’t know what to do.

These are moments and situations in life where we need to move. We need to do something. We can’t simply stand still and do nothing. Standing still and doing nothing only makes it worse. Yet, how many of us find ourselves in that very predicament. So, what do we do?

Well, this is not profound, and it may sound oversimplified. But, when facing situations where we know that something needs to be done, but we don’t know specifically what needs to be done, we need to start by just doing something. Move! Take a step. This may feel counter-intuitive, but it is important. This is faith. We cannot stand still and wait for something to happen. We need to move. We must trust that God is in the situations and struggles with us.

When we are facing such moments in our lives, we’ll discover a lot about what we believe about God. Do we believe Him to be a God who is waiting to punish us for every wrong step we take or decision we make? Or do we believe that He is a faithful, compassionate God who walks with us, helps us guides us, and catches us when we fall? We have to believe that when we take steps in those times where we’re not sure of exactly what we should do, God will be there to help and guide us. Just as we don’t do everything for our kids as the grow and mature, so God will not make every decision for us. He will not take every step for us. But He will be faithful to walk with us. When we need to be corrected or nudged in a certain direction, we should trust, with confidence, that He will come through.

So, in that situation you’re facing right now where you’re not sure exactly what to do – just do something! God is ready to help.
